Grammy Award winning Reggae Super Stars Black Uhuru will be performing at the Honokaa People’s Theatre on March 8, showtime 7:30 PM. Also on the bill is the multi-talented reggae artist Onesty. Big Island’s Blended Rootz, featuring Lopaka Rootz, will open the show. Ticket info below.
For over 50 years Black Uhuru has remained one of the most popular recognized prolific reggae band from Jamaica. The living legends have earned several achievements in the music industry including winning the first ever Grammy Award for reggae music. They’re long success along with having the highest reggae record sales after Bob Marley & songs sampled by several other artists over the years has allowed them to become Ambassadors of reggae.
Black Uhuru’s long success has allowed them to become ambassadors of reggae while earning several achievements in the music industry. With 14 full-length albums, seven instrumental dub albums, and four live albums, they have the highest record sales in reggae music behind Bob Marley. The album “Red” was voted No. 23 for Rolling Stone’s list of “100 Greatest Albums of the 1980s.” In addition to winning the first reggae Grammy Award, they have been nominated five subsequent times. Black Uhuru is the only reggae group to have won the International Association of African-American Music’s Diamond Award of Excellence, in 1994.
In 2017 they released a new single & music video “Jah Guide” a Peter Tosh tribute that featured Bugle. In 2018. the album As The World Turns was released in September. The album has been nominated for Best Reggae Album for 2019’s 61st annual Grammy Awards.
Continuing on their successful 2018 tour (including many sold-out shows), the legendary band will take the stage at The Honokaa People’s Theatre on March 8.
